INTERVIEW: PRISMO’s Road to Euphoria

prismo-feature
With South By South West being the week before last, there will be no rest for the emerging trap artist Prismo. Less than two weeks away, Zach Burgett, aka Prismo; will be taking the stage again in Austin at Euphoria Fest. Even with his hectic schedule, the Houston born music producer took the time to talk with us and answer a few questions.

Zach’s interest in music started at an early age. His father, who is a talented musician himself, is the one who sparked the fire in his love for music. Zach plays multiple instruments, and as his choices of music expanded, he decided to branch out into the electronic music scene. Being so young and having having achieved so much thus far, not to mention balancing the Aggie college life; Zach is nothing short of impressive.

Although still a newcomer in the game, Zach is showing a lot of promise. His most recent release ‘Wild Side’ that dropped last week starts off slow with heavy bass leading to a hard chaotic drop. The song has a good blend of both the more melodic and heavier styles of bass music, which really stands out. Just a few weeks earlier Zach released Vol. 1 on his ‘Drop It Low’ mix series, featuring multiple unreleased tracks. It’s got “everything from heavy bass in your face…to softer vibes…” The mix starts off with an extensive trap sound, then transforms to calmer beats with more lyrical involvement, displaying Zach’s genre versatility. Some other tracks by Prismo are ‘Real Street’ feat. TA$C!ONE, ‘Escape’, ‘TRVP HANDS’, and his Lil Jon ‘Get Loose’ remix. You can check out some of these tracks on Prismo’s Soundcloud, and you should also follow him on Facebook to stay in the loop with upcoming shows.

If you missed Zach at South by, don’t worry! Prismo is coming to Austin’s Carson Creek Ranch to perform at Euphoria Fest April 7-10. The 3-day camping festival is here for its 5th year. With each year Euphoria keeps getting bigger and better. Featuring 3 stages playing alongside Prismo are tons of other artists big and little from around the world like Dillon Francis, Bassnectar, STS9, and Above & Beyond.

Euphoria Fest weekend isn’t one you will want to miss. Finally feeling like Spring, the weather is perfect to be outdoors and in the midst of great music. We at the magazine are counting down the days to the big event, and we hope to see everyone out there. Get your tickets here before it’s too late!

INTERVIEW:

Q: What inspired you to get into music, more specifically electronic music?

Zach: I’ve been playing instruments and listening to music starting at a young age. As I grew up, my musical interests expanded and I began to hear electronic music and dance music when I went out with my friends. I got hooked on the high energy synths and bass lines and decided I wanted to learn to create it myself.

Q: Who have been your main musical influences and inspirations?

Zach: My main musical influence has been my dad. He’s a very talented musician and kick started my passion for music. On the other hand, artists and bands that have influenced and inspired me range from Primus, The White Stripes, Radiohead, Trivium, Skrillex, Knife Party, Slim Thug, and more. It’s hard to choose a select few.

Q: Being so young how does it feel to be on the come up so quick in your career?

Zach: It been awesome to see hard work pay off, and the momentum I’ve started to maintain is pushing to work harder and reach higher.

Q: How do you balance the everyday struggles of a college student with all the travel and late nights working in the music industry?

Zach: I have to keep a focused, hard-working mindset constantly throughout the week. I dedicate most weekdays to school (except for some evenings) and weekends to music. Having a tight schedule has helped me get rid of lazy habits and I feel more productive than ever with both school and music.

Q: Who are you most excited to see at Euphoria?

Zach: Bassnectar, Branchez, Azizi Gibson, Crizzly are some of the acts I’m looking forward too. I think I’m most excited to see Azizi Gibson cause I haven’t seen one of his shows before.

Q: What can fans look forward to when going to a Prismo show? What can we expect from the set list at Euphoria in April?

Zach: Expect high energy and lots of fun and goofiness from me. In almost any of my sets you can expect at least 75% of the music to be a Prismo remix or an original. I can’t wait to bring the Prismo experience the euphoria this year!
