(Press Release via Dub Academy – Austin, TX)
AUSTIN – You’ve probably seen it riding the train into downtown Austin. If not, you’ve probably walked past it on your way to Progress Coffee or Pine Street Station (aka Fader Fort during SXSW). You may have even parked in front of it on a Friday night before you headed downtown. It’s the Dub Academy and it’s teaching the next wave of DJs and producers.
Dub Academy’s roots originate in Jamaica, the motherland of owner Barrington Miles. Contrary to popular belief, the “dub” in Dub Academy does not refer to Dubstep. Rather, dub is a Jamaican term for manipulating and reshaping music. With this in mind, aspiring music-makers hone their craft.
A key figure in the Austin music scene, Dub Academy aids students in achieving their dreams. Tanner Brown, former Dub Academy student, recently opened for producing giant Rusko. Other students have achieved success by opening for various artists such as Drop the Lime in and around the Austin area.
As the only Ableton certified training center in Texas, Dub Academy offers a truly unique curriculum. Additionally, experts in the field teach the DJ classes.
Classes are scheduled at various time and dates to accommodate almost any schedule. The school also offers private lessons, for those who want a one-on-one experience, and summer camps for the kiddos.
Every Sunday, Dub Academy offers free workshops open to the public. Topics range from turntablism, product demonstrations and Ableton Live 8 tricks and tips. For more information, visit www.dubacademy.com.
